Lighting’s Influence on films

Title: Inglourious Basterds

Director: Quentin Tarantino

Year: 2009

During this bar scene clip they used low-key lighting to dramatically enhance the effects making you get sense that you are in a dark smokey bar In Germany during WW2.

The benefits of the use of lighting is that is enhances the tension and seclusion of the room and being surrounded by Nazi Germans.

The technique contributed immensely; it allows you to see the film that looked authentic to its time. It made the colors dull and nostalgic giving you the appearance the film was shot during WW2. Although color film had just been invented in 1939 which was the start of WW2 which was from 1939 to 1945.

If the lighting chose had been made differently let’s say for instance you used a bright HD lighting it wouldn’t have felt as authentic. The lighting that they used was more that for appearance but gave purpose to the timeline of the film.
