FURY ACTORS AND ACTING STYLES

TITLE: FURY

DIRECTOR: David Ayer

Actors: Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman

Date of Film release: 17 October 2014

The actor I would like to start with for this specific film is Brad Pitt. In the film fury the acting style I believe he is using Method acting since he has played this type of role before. If you look back at his earlier film Inglourious Basterds you can see some of his traits from when he was Lt. Aldo Raine leading his men to hunt down nazis, which is exactly what they are doing in the film Fury. He maintains his composure and wits even when it seems all is lost. During the last battle of the movie Fury when the tank is tracked and can longer move forward he stays with the tank till the bitter end fighting for his mens lives. The other compairison would be when during the film Inglourious Basterds he is captured by Col. Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) he head butts him during the conversation outside to show his commitment to taking them down even if it cost him his life.

The second actor I would like to discuss is Shia LaBeouf. During his role in this film I feel he is also using method style acting. He is also known for diving deep into his role to get the most realistic scenes and emotions from the audience. During this film admist his own life crisis he proclaimed when speaking with Interview Magazine he had found Jesus and that he couldve just read the words on the script but by doing so he felt it was real and that it saved him. His character in the film is a follower of Jesus although this plays a big part of his character it shows you the commitment he puts into it. He plays a hero in many different movies but I would compare his role to eagle eye. By that I mean his desire to complete the Job when he knows that he isnt going to make it.

Finally the last character Logan Lerman. I think he played from the acting type of both Realism and Method styled acting. In the first part of the film when he arrives to be apart of the crew after Fury loses it gunner he is scared and not prepared for the job hes going to have to do. As the film goes on he starts to the the hatred these people have for not only Americans but Jews as well. I feel that some of his anger displayed could be from his actual family life coming from a Jewish family.  In his other most recent film Noah he displays courage and faith in whats to come though it wasnt shown at first in the movie Fury it stood out in the end when he was ready to die for his country.

The focused actor would be Brad Pitt due to his inhernet ability to play an WW2 leader well. I think his personality and ability to play in a military styled leadership role lands him these parts. He’s a really flexible actor and adapts well to other movie roles.

Different types of sound at work in film and assess how they contribute to the overall sense of meaning in a film.

In the movie whiplash there are many different sound effects that can be heard mostly from when he practices playing the drums. There is also parts of the movie where fillers are added to bring the suspense to a higher level improving the scene to help viewers understand the discipline of music and how it sounds great if played with precision.

The sound informs the mood overall by immersing you in the passion, love and addiction that he has for music during the film.

The range of sound effects that the movie produces are very specific by using actual sounds from the drums being played for a realistic effect. If they used a fake drum sound you would not feel the same because the realism gives more credit to the character and makes for a more believable situation.

The sound is also great because you can actual see and hear his struggle with adapting to the unrealistic goals that his instructors holds him to.

American Sniper

The Plot:

Chris Kyle was nothing more than a country boy from Texas who wanted to be a cowboy, getting older and now in his thirties he found out that maybe he needed to do something different with his life and career where he could express his real talent, something that could help America during its time in need. In the movie he joined the Navy SEALs in order to become an elite sniper. After marrying, Kyle and the other members of the team are called for their first tour of Iraq. Kyle’s struggle isn’t with his missions, but about his relationship with the reality of the war when Chris Kyle returned at home, how he manages to handle it with his urban life, his wife and kids.

This film is presented chronologically.

How did this aesthetic choice contribute to the general effect on the audience?

It affected the audience by showing them insight on Chris Kyle’s life and how dealing with not only the effects war had on him but his family as well.

How are elements like character development or foreshadowing impacted by the choice of storytelling methods?

Chris Kyle’s character needed to be understood from before he joined so that the viewers understood his reasons of serving his country and that his job wasn’t for just fun but had a purpose.

If the film would have been presented poorly it could have given the opposite message. Its intent was to educate and help many people understand the effects of war on even the most elite of individual’s.
